Gentle Spirit

I am an angry blogger, not to be confused with booger. Boogers are gross... Anyway, 2013 has been my least happiest year in terms of music and media. For starters that guy from glee died and Thom Yorke and flea are making music together as Atoms For Peace. Bummer... Luckily theres Jonathon Wilson and his suprisingly vintage sounding debut LP "Gentle Spirit". Although its his debut, Wilson is no stranger to many of todays top acts in the psych-folk and rock world having produced for and performed with artist such as Erykah Badu, Father John Misty as well as 60s folk rock legend  Graham Nash. The album itself sound as if it were plucked straight from the flower power era although it was released in the earlier part of the year. In my opinion its the best album to be released in 2013 in terms of what the folk community has to offer (where's  Robin Pecknold and Daniel Rossen?!). It's the perfect blend of America, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Depressed Gordon Lightfoot. But it, it also consistantly gives off
a sunbathed earthy psychedic vibe that makes the record listenable throughout changing tempos slightly and seamlessly even the on upbeat funky cover of Gordon Lightfoots "The Way I Feel" acts as a release from the albums otherwise hippy vibe. I'm not a certified critic but I'd definatly recommend this one be added to the records collection.
